Kathleen McMahon Kathleen McMahon

Kathleen has been involved in Scottish Highland Dance for over 40 years. She has been a member of the BATD (British Association of Teachers of Dance) since 1978 and is currently a Highland Fellow, as well as a Member of both Highland and Scottish National branches. Kathleen teaches in Farmington Hills and Livonia. She resides in Farmington Hills with her husband, Alistair Hill. Alistair is a bagpiper much in demand for his performances at social functions and also teaches bagpipes. Kathleen and her students have won many prizes and awards in competitions in Michigan, as well as the Carolinas, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Quebec. Additionally, while competing in Scotland in 1986, 1997, & 2002, Kathleen and several of her students were very successful – winning many, many medals and several trophies. In 2005, 2007, and 2008, she had students qualify and successfully compete at the USIR (National Championship) in Washington, California, and Colorado, respectively. Kathleen and her students have performed at many different venues around the Detroit area, the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, and southwestern Ontario including Cobo Hall, Joe Louis Arena, the Renaissance Center, Chene Park, Canterbury Village, Grand Valley State University, National Folk Arts Festival in E. Lansing, Kalamazoo Scottish Festival (10 years consecutively), and Skydome in Toronto. Their performances also include those with The Alexander Brothers (on tour from Scotland), Battlefield Band (on tour from Ireland) and performances for St. Andrew's Society of Detroit, the Detroit Burns Club, Pipers' and Pipe Band Society of Ontario, Daughters of Scotia, the International Chiefs of Police Convention, and the Republican National Convention. Kathleen was also one of a group of dancers who performed for HRH Queen Elizabeth II in Windsor, Ontario in 1984.
